Walking & Hiking

Le Canard au Parapluie Rouge is located in Celon, a small village Berry region of the Indre Department. As you wonder around our village you will see signs of modern day life, families young & old, small thriving businesses, as well as nods to Celon’s early days, including a 13th Century Chateau. In the last few years, the Chateau has undergone a massive renovation and the progress is detailed on their website.

You do not have to travel far from us to enjoy a variety of pursuits. Whether you are with us for an overnight stop or several days, Argenton-sur-Creuse is a must-see on our list. It is a beautiful medieval town within a 10-minute drive. Some of our other favorites include Gargiless, St. Benoit du Sault, Eguzon and Sarzay. If you prefer activities a bit more on the adventurous side, you will not be disappointed! Stunning countryside that offers an endless amount of walking & hiking opportunities surrounds us. There is an abundance of water sports activities-
kayaking, windsurfing, boating & fishing. Several of the lakeside parks offer water slides and children play areas.  The Brenne National Park is near by and a bit further a field a wildlife reserve and a sanctuary for wolves. Oradour sur Glane, a village destroyed during WWII and preserved, as it was that tragic day. We highly recommend a visit as it is a very moving experience and an important part of history in our area.  We have a slew of brochures, maps and walking guides available in our reception area. In addition we have provided several useful website links. Please let us know if can assistance in organizing any activity in advance of your visit.
